2019 Favorites || Music

I mentioned in my previous post about my 2019 favorites in books, movies, and TV shows that I would write a separate post for my favorite music of 2019…well, here it is!

2019 was a huge year for discovering music for me. I started using Spotify again, and it has allowed me to expand my music interests while continuing to listen to my old faves. Many artists I follow also put out new music this year, so I constantly had new albums and singles to listen to. Since I live at my parents house, it normally takes me at least thirty minutes to get to work or any event, so I typically listened to Spotify at least an hour every day. Plus, I like to have music on when I’m organizing or working on things, so that adds up to a lot of time spent listening to music!

While I did discover music this year that was released before 2019, I only included albums and singles released this year in this post. Many of my playlists did have older songs on repeat, but I wanted to focus more on the music that came out in 2019.

Top 5 Artists

We’re going to do this the easy way-these are the top 5 artists according to my Spotify wrapped list. I didn’t get Spotify Premium until halfway through the year, but this list looked accurate to me!

  1. Halsey
  2. NF
  3. Meg Myers
  4. Melanie Martinez
  5. Taylor Swift

Most of these are artists that I was already a fan of. I’ve been listening to Halsey, Melanie Martinez, and Taylor Swift for years! I did know and listen to a few of NF’s songs prior to this year, but in 2019, I became addicted to his music. His songs have a lot of sadness and frustration to them, but they also give off a motivated and determined vibe. I could listen to him when I was feeling low or when I felt like I needed to get pumped to get work done. I discovered Meg Myers this year, and I love her as well! She seems so quirky and into nature too, which is always a plus!

Favorite Albums

There were so many great albums released in 2019. Granted, my list may not seem long, but I’m someone who tends to overplay songs to death. I normally listen to every song on an album on repeat for a few months before moving on to another one, which proved difficult this year when all of the artists I love were releasing new albums.

  1. The Search – NF
  2. K-12 – Melanie Martinez
  3. you ruined new york city for me – FLETCHER
  4. CHAMPION – Bishop Briggs
  5. Lover – Taylor Swift
  6. thank u, next – Ariana Grande
  7. Head Above Water – Avril Lavigne
  8. Norman Fucking Rockwell! – Lana Del Rey
  9. Solutions – K. Flay

Favorite Singles

Essentially, I’m an obsessive Halsey fan. She may not have released an album in 2019, but she definitely continued to release singles and collaborations throughout the year. I also found a few other favorite singles too!

  1. Nightmare – Halsey
  2. Die For Me (feat. Future & Halsey) – Post Malone
  3. Earth – Lil Dicky
  4. 11 Minutes (with Halsey feat. Travis Barker) – YUNGBLUD
  5. Hate Me (with Juice WRLD) – Ellie Goulding
  6. Paid My Dues – NF
  7. Last Hurrah – Bebe Rexha
  8. ¿ (feat. Halsey) – Bring Me the Horizon
  9. Someone You Loved – Lewis Capaldi
  10. Everything I Wanted – Billie Eilish
  11. Truth Hurts – Lizzo

Thanks for reading! Who were your favorite artists in 2019? Favorite albums? Favorites singles?

  1. I love Spotify it helps me get through the day! 😂 Especially travelling to work. Sounds like some great music. My music taste is so varied I listen to everything 😂 I really like Jonas Brothers (can I admit that? Yes), but there are so many I can’t think now haha x

    • Me too, Spotify certainly keeps me motivated! I think my music taste is normally varied too, although I definitely stick to some areas more than others. I never really got into the Jonas Brothers, but I know many people were excited that they finally released some new music in 2019!

  2. Lewis Capaldi just knows how to get me in the feels lol. NGL, I am a HUGE Ari fan and have been since she first started releasing music so I feel like 2019 was really her year and I was living for it.

I was surprised by how much I the like TS Lover album b/c I wasn’t a huge fan of reputation, but this album gave me such 1989 vibes.

    • Yeah, I need to listen to more of Lewis Capaldi’s music! Ariana Grande certainly killed it in 2019-her album was so good!
I wasn’t really hyped for Taylor’s album after reputation, but ended up loving it anyway. Definitely had more 1989 vibes than her previous one!
