With one of my most anticipated movies of 2020 coming out today, I decided to make a list of movies I am looking forward to this year. Like last year’s list of movies, this post will feature many superhero movies. What can I say? I’m obsessed.
Anyways, while looking through the movies that are getting released in 2020, I see a common theme…badass females! Many of the superhero movies this year feature a female lead, and being a female who loves the genre, I can’t wait!
Birds of Prey
I’m not going to lie, when I found out this movie was going to be Birds of Prey instead of the Gotham City Sirens, I was disappointed. When I saw the trailers, however, my excitement came back. I love Harley and her hyenas, and I am so glad she is getting one in this movie! I’m also looking forward to the Huntress and the Black Canary; this looks like it’s going to have a great crew of female characters! The soundtrack for this movie also looks like it’s going to be amazing. I mean, they have songs from Halsey and K. Flay (two of my faves), and the whole album has a girl power vibe, so I do not think it’s going to disappoint. Luckily, I do not have to wait long to see this one as it comes out tonight!
Wonder Woman 1984
I loved the first Wonder Woman, so I am looking forward to the sequel! The trailer looked amazing. Plus, Steve Trevor is back! I don’t know how and I don’t know if it’s real or not, but I’m glad he’s going to be in the movie. The trailer also didn’t reveal much about the villains. It did seem to build up Maxwell Lord as the main villain, but we didn’t get to see much from Cheetah yet. The retro music also went along very well with the trailer…DC seems to be killing it with the music for their movies this year!
Black Widow
The timing of this movie is a little weird for me (why make a movie developing a character after she sacrificed herself in Endgame?), but finally, we are getting a Black Widow movie! While we did get glimpses of her past from the Avengers movies, it wasn’t as in-depth as many of the other main heroes. I’m glad we will get to see more of her backstory!
Scoob
I literally have a dog named Scooby, so you better believe that I am excited for Scoob! The voices might sound a little off, but the art looks gorgeous! The story seems cute and nostalgic as well. My heart was melting when Shaggy gave Scooby his collar.
Mulan
Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movies, so I think I’m going to love this! I was a little hesitant at first when I heard that they weren’t going to include the songs or Mulan’s love interest from the animated version. Especially since the previous live-action Disney adaptations closely followed their animated versions, I think it will be interesting to see the differences they make in this one.
Morbius
I didn’t realize this movie was coming out until I saw the trailer. With all of the Spider-Man references (it features Adrian Toomes aka the Vulture; plus it shows graffiti of Spider-Man with ‘murderer’ written across it), I think that I’m going to have to watch this movie!
The Conjuring 3
I actually didn’t know this movie was coming out until I looked at the 2020 release list. I loved the first two Conjuring movies (and the first two Annabelle movies), so I’m looking forward to this one as well! I was very disappointed in the last Annabelle movie, but hopefully this one will be better since it will features the Warrens.
Venom 2
Is this one really releasing in 2020? It looks like it’s supposed to be released later in 2020, but it certainly snuck up on me! Especially with Morbius coming out this year, I didn’t realize that Venom 2 would be as well. I enjoyed the first Venom, so I can’t wait to watch the second one! I heard there were rumors of a potential cameo from Tom Holland (Spider-Man) so that would be a pleasant surprise too.
Dune
This was a last minute add to my list. I will hopefully be able to get my hands on the novel by Frank Helbert that this sci-fi movie is based on (it looks like I have time as this movie is set to be released late 2020). Then I should have a better idea on whether or not I want to see the movie. It does look like it has quite a cast though as it features Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, Jason Momoa, and quite a few other actors/actresses that have been starring in famous movies lately.
Birds of Prey and Black Widow are both on my list of movies I’d like to see this year. I might see Birds of Prey next week if I can fit it into my schedule. There is a lot of great movies coming out this year, and I can’t wait to see them on the big screen.
